As recounted in Acts 2:1-4:
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The 120 men and women in the Upper Room on the Day of Pentecost received the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance and were empowered to witness for Jesus Christ. Acts 2:5-6:
It was while the 120 were speaking in tongues that caused the world to rush up to their doorstep and the Apostle Peter preached a sermon to the crowd reminding them that this was the fulfillment of the prophecy given by Joel 2:28-29. Acts 2:41 reports: “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” > more.
